Smog Check Service To Provide High-Quality Results

Taking your vehicle in for a smog check service can be nerve-wracking. If your car does not pass the test, it could lead you to more costly repairs, late Department of Motor Vehicles(DVM) registration fees, and all the stress that comes with unexpected expenses.

Unless your car is a brand new one, you might think that passing the test is up to fate. But there are actually several steps you can consider to increase your chances of passing the California smog check:

1. Check the Check Engine light of the vehicle: If your car displays the Check Engine light, that will result in an automatic smog check failure. You will need to get a diagnosis and fix it before you test.

2. Drive the car at the highway two weeks prior to the smog test: Doing this gets the catalytic converter hot enough to burn out any oil and gas residues in the tapeline. The catalytic converter converts the harmful pollutants into less harmful emissions before they leave the exhaust system.
3. Change the oil if needed: Dirty oil in the crankcase could release additional pollutants, which could cause the car to fail the smog test at smog check service station. While the technician is changing the oil, ask him to do a visual inspection of your car's engine to see if any hoses are cracked, broken or disconnected.

4. Do a tune-up two weeks prior to the smog test: Get any required maintenance performed well before the smog test. The car needs two weeks of prior driving to run all the diagnostic tests needed to pass the smog test.

5. Make sure the tires of the vehicle are properly inflated: If the tires of your car are under-inflated, then the engine works harder to achieve the engine revolutions required by the test.

6. Get a pre-inspection before the actual test: Having pre-inspection shows if a car will pass or fail without officially recording the results with the state's registry of motor vehicles.

7. Check levels of coolant and gas before the test: Make sure to fill your coolant tank properly. If the gas is low in the tank, this could expose the fuel pump and put vapor in the fuel line, causing the car to fail the test.
