California Smog Check Center For Professional Auto Services
The California State requires California Smog Check Center stations to test vehicles in the specific order to ensure that the vehicle is free from harmful emission. The emissions first inspection is performed by the exhaust gas analyzer also called a "smog machine". Basically, vehicles for the smog test do not need to be driven on a dynamometer.
During this step of the smog inspection, the smog machine looks for the presence of Hydrocarbons, Carbon Monoxides and Nitrogen Oxides in your vehicle's exhaust. These are the three undesired chemicals which are responsible for the production of smog, which not only affects the surroundings around us but also has very bad effects on the health of the humans causing many diseases and breathing disorders.
The next two inspections include the visual and functional, which are performed both by the smog technician and/or the smog machine. Most of the vehicles in California are required to pass a Smog Check test every two years for registration renewal.
Your DMV(Department of Motor Vehicle) Registration Renewal Notice will indicate if your vehicle needs a Smog Check or not. You may take your vehicle to any certified Smog Check station, and get your vehicle checked.
In case if your vehicles smog check doesn't pass, you can't get a license plate to legally drive the car. Now you probably have two choices: repairing the faulty components of the vehicle or stop driving your car. Your DMV registration can't be renewed if your vehicles smog check fails. Now, your failed smog test might need you to get repairs for the vehicle.
Once you have done these repairs, you can take your vehicle back for the inspection at California Smog Check Center to have it looked at again and most likely pass inspection.
There are several steps you can take to increase your chances of passing the California smog check:
1. Check the “check engine” light.
2. Ensure that the battery hasn’t been recently disconnected.
3. Get an oil exchange.
4. Get a tune-up- but not just before the test.
5. Get a pre-inspection. Etc.
